Introduction
- There are two ways to activate the service: by setting the Cloudflare nameservers on the domain and managing the DNS zone from the Cloudflare administration panel, or by activating the service from the hosting cPanel, without needing to make any nameserver changes to the domain.
- In this tutorial, we will present the steps necessary to activate the service by changing the nameservers on the domain.
Requirements
For the following steps, we will need the following:
- Access to the domain administration panel, in order to change the nameservers to those provided by Cloudflare.
- An active account at Cloudflare, which can be created by accessing cloudflare.com
Steps
- We will need to set the nameservers provided by Cloudflare on the domain for which we want to activate protection.
- We will log into the Cloudflare account by accessing https://dash.cloudflare.com/login
- We will click on Add a Site.
- We enter the domain name for which we want to activate protection, then we click on Add Site.
- On the next page, a message "We're querying your DNS records" will appear. We will click on the Next button, then we will select a service package, either paid or free, and click on Confirm Plan, then Purchase.
- Cloudflare will display the DNS query results of the hosting. To proceed, we will click at the bottom of the page on Continue.
- On the next page, in the boxes on the right, the nameservers that we need to set on the domain will be displayed.
- These nameservers can be set from the control panel where the domain was purchased. This change procedure may vary depending on the domain provider. In the case where the domain is purchased from us, the nameservers can be changed from the Hostico client account.
- After this step, we will click on the Continue button.
- Finally, we will wait for the propagation of the Cloudflare nameservers, which can take a few hours. A message will also be displayed on the next page: "Status: Website not active (DNS modification pending)".
- After the propagation is complete, the services will be active on the domain, and the DNS zone will be editable from the Cloudflare account.
