Creating a backup for an application installed through Softaculous

Introduction

• In this tutorial, we will present the necessary steps to create a backup of an application installed using the cPanel Softaculous plugin.
• Softaculous is an auto-installer that simplifies the installation of web applications. It includes numerous CMSs (Content Management Systems), such as: WordPress, Joomla, PrestaShop, phpBB, Magento, WHMCS, etc.

Requirements

For the following steps, we will need the following:

• The login credentials for the cPanel, present in the email with the administration details.

Steps

• First, we will log in to the cPanel control panel.

• Once authenticated, we will go to the Software section and click on the Softaculous Apps Installer button.

• On the next page, the main interface of the Softaculous auto-installer will be loaded.
• To create a backup, we will click on Installations.

• In the next window, a list of all applications installed using Softaculous will be loaded.
• We will click on the symbol  on the right of the application for which we want to make a backup. In this case, it is a Wordpress installation.
•  The following window will contain the fields:
  -Backup Directory - if we check the box on the right, a backup of the entire application directory will be created.
  -Backup Database - if we check the box on the right, a backup of the database will be created.
  *It is recommended that both boxes be checked to have a complete archive containing all files and the database.
  -Backup Note - în this field we can add notes for the created backup.
  -Info - will contain information about the application: version, database name, date added, etc.
• To create the backup, we will click the Backup Installation button.

• Once the process is completed, we will be greeted by a success message.

• In order to download the backup, we will return to the main Softaculous page and click on Backups.

• In the next window, a list of all created backups will load.

• To download the archive with the files and the database, we will click the button with the symbol  .
• To delete the backup we will click on the button with the symbol .
• If we want to automatically restore a backup, we will click on the button with the symbol .
