Transfer Your Site to Hostico

Content transfer between two web service providers is one of the most requested procedures within Hostico. To streamline this process, a transfer tool has been designed that allows scheduling the move without needing to contact the support team.

In the following, we will go through each aspect of the transfer tool:

I. Transfer through the backup archive

The transfer tool (Transfer Wizard) is found on the Hostico main page by navigating to the bottom of the window, positioned above the footer pages.

After clicking the green button (Transfer Wizard), the page related to the transfer module will open.

Note: If you are not logged into your Hostico client account, a field with the email address will be displayed at the top.
If you have a client account, you will need to log into your Hostico client account first, after which you can request the migration. However, if you do not have a client account, you will need to enter the email address where you want the Hostico account to be created at the top.

In the Hostname section (1), the domain name that is the subject of the transfer will be inserted.

In the Plan menu (2), you will select from the list a hosting package to which you want the new site to be migrated. If there is no active hosting package or you do not yet have a Hostico client account, you will need to opt for a new hosting package. The rates for the hosting packages are presented in the plans menu, but for a complete picture, we recommend visiting the Web Hosting pages as well as the VPS pages.

In order for the migration to be possible, you will need to choose a hosting package that has similar resources to those you currently have. If you choose a hosting package with space below the necessary level, the Hostico technical team will contact you in this regard to perform an upgrade.

Furthermore, the moment in which the transfer will be carried out will be selected within a maximum interval of 1 week from the time the request is submitted. If you want the transfer to be made as quickly as possible, select the first option at the top.

Note: It should be taken into account that the migration process usually takes place at night (after 00:00) to minimize the impact of DNS zone propagation. If you select the "As fast as possible" option, migration will occur during the day, which may lead to temporary interruptions in the functionality of the website and emails.

In order for the migration to be carried out, you will need to provide us with a complete backup archive (full backup). This is done by selecting a file (4), after which you upload the archive from local storage with one of the extensions: .zip, .tgz, .tar.gz.

If you wish to mention other aspects or have custom requirements, this information can be conveyed in the additional information section (5).

If everything is in order, the terms agreement is checked, after which the procedure is finalized by submitting the request.

II. Backup link transfer

If you do not have the backup archive in local storage, but you have a link from where it can be downloaded, you will go to the Backup Link section and insert the link from where Hostico operators can download the archive or the files related to the migrated website.

III. Transfer through authentication data

In situations where you do not have the local file or a link to the archive, migration can also be requested by manually copying from the current hosting service. In order to achieve this, you will need to choose migration through the "Control Panel", where you will enter the link to the control panel (e.g. cPanel), the username, and the access password.

Please note that migration from a control panel is only possible if the service is still active, so if you opt for this option, please ensure that the panel is still accessible.

After completing the migration process, you will receive written confirmation from the Hostico technical operators, as well as any additional information that you need to consider.

Note:

• After migrating the content you will be notified about the update of the nameservers, however if you want this process to be handled by us as well, the domain related to the migrated site must be transferred to Hostico. The transfer process for domains is based on the transfer key generated from the ROTLD control panel, and for other extensions, the key can be obtained either from the current provider's control panel or by contacting the support team. After generating the key, you can place the transfer order directly from the site, or by sending the key to office@hostico.com, after which we will place a transfer order in your account.
• Certain providers do not allow migration to other servers, so if such a situation arises, you will be notified about this aspect.
• The migration of files is carried out depending on the volume and number of transfers on a certain day. In the event that you have selected a day for migration and on that day a high number of transfers is already scheduled, you will be contacted to reschedule for another date.
• If you initially opt for a hosting package and the resources are at the maximum limit, you can request an upgrade order by paying the price difference between the two services until the due date.
• If the migrated website is an old one (presenting an old PHP version), there is a possibility that after migration certain aspects of the site may not be identical and may require further intervention from you or the Hostico Technical team.
• For situations where migration is to a VPS service, it is advisable to choose a control panel with which you are familiar, and for the safety of the files, we recommend also opting for the backup feature.
